Food & Saturation Guide
Every Minecraft food ranked by hunger and saturation — so you know what's actually worth carrying.

Reading the numbers
- Hunger refills the drumstick bar — 2 points is one whole drumstick, so steak's 8 = four drumsticks.
- Saturation is a hidden buffer that drains before your hunger bar does. High saturation = you stay full much longer, which is why golden carrots (14.4) and steak (12.8) are the go-to foods.
- You can only eat when your hunger bar isn't full (except golden apples, honey and a few others), and saturation can never exceed your current hunger.
About this guide
Not all food is equal — a stack of melon slices barely keeps you fed, while a few steaks last for ages. This table lists every eatable item with its exact hunger and saturation, so you can pick the best thing to farm and stop wasting inventory slots. Items that can poison you or give Hunger are flagged so you don't eat them by mistake. Sort by any column, or search for a specific food.
FAQ
What is the best food in Minecraft?
Golden carrots give the most saturation (14.4), so they keep you full the longest. Steak and cooked porkchop are the best non-golden option at 12.8 saturation and are far cheaper to farm.
What is the difference between hunger and saturation?
Hunger is the drumstick bar you refill when you eat. Saturation is a hidden reserve that drains first — the higher a food's saturation, the longer before your hunger bar starts dropping again.
Which foods should I never eat?
Pufferfish, raw chicken, poisonous potato, spider eye and rotten flesh can poison you or give Hunger. They are marked with a warning in the table.
